It seems like every week there’s an article in the news about childhood obesity. At least once a month, you’re likely to come across new government recommendations, new research findings, or new diseases linked to overweight kids.
That’s because it is such a big problem, and one that every newspaper picks up on. As adults like to kick start a healthy regime with a new year’s resolution, so too is it the perfect time for kids to get used to exercise.
But for many children, exercising is boring. It just doesn’t sound or look very fun.
So instead, encourage kids to get fit in ways where they don’t realise they’re actually exercising. One great way to do this is to use their favourite celebrities as role models, and take their children as examples.
Here’s a few ideas to get started.
Stretch those legs like Beckham’s kids
Following in their father’s footsteps, David Beckham’s kids get plenty of exercise as they run around the pitch and practice their free kicks, just like their dad. Football is a great sport for burning calories and having fun, and we’ve got soccer classes for every age group.
Bust some moves like Chris Martin’s children
Growing up with a dad in the world-famous Coldplay and a mum as a world-famous actress could be very difficult for Moses and Apple, with lots of opportunities to sit around, eat and forget about exercise.
But they like to keep fit and healthy by dancing and jumping around to their dad’s songs. Dancing is a great fat-burning exercise, so why not bring your kids down to try Shake and Wiggle or Dance Crew at the club?
Practice karate like Will Smith’s son
Will Smith is famous for his dance moves too, but his son Jaden likes to get his exercise from another activity. As star of The Karate Kid, Jaden had to do lots of Karate training to be up to the task.
Perfecting balance and control in methods similar to yoga is a great workout for kids too, and will help to prevent obesity. Bring them down to Karate School to see if they like it!
Improve those tennis skills to challenge Andy Murray’s baby!
As Andy Murray is expecting a new baby very soon, we bet that he or she will be holding a racket before they can walk! And who could blame Andy, as tennis is an excellent, all-round activity for developing a wide variety of fitness skills, toning muscles, and burning fat.
Help train your kids to be the next tennis star, whilst having fun, by trying out Tots Tennis!
Race Jessica Ennis-Hill’s son to victory
Olympic winning athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill is the epitome of a fit, healthy mum, and you can be sure she’ll be encouraging her son Reggie to keep the fat off with her too. In fact, he’s already been pictured watching her train, and will be chasing her around the track very soon.
So why not see if your kids enjoy athletics too, as they test their skills with a variety of different exercises and challenges at our Saturday morning club.
Go head to head with Chris Eubank’s son in the ring!
Finally, we know many children are motivated by their boxing heroes, and whilst Chris Eubank may have retired, his son is a keen competitor, following hot on his dad’s heels.
Boxing can be a really effective cardio workout for kids of all ages, and they won’t even realise it’s exercise! Bring them down to Kids Box Fit, and even if they may be a while from entering the ring with a famous boxer, they’ll still be using calories and burning fat!
